Sketches! Sketches everywhere!! And news of what to come!

So here's just a pile of what I've been doodling with on the side for things. Model sessions, character thumbs, what have you.

Oh, and...

Lots of pages soon to come! I've been juggling a couple projects that should be wrapping up shortly, or at least a few of them will be. So hopefully I'll soon be sharing a silly three page involving peter pan, a twelve page western that will be part of an anthology coming out (details on that later), and the first half of a wonderful 23 page intro to a larger form story that my friend, Lisa Tolbert, wrote which can be roughly described as a dark fantasy that is very military and politically driven. Also I might be able to share some story boards and character designs for a group project on the side, though that will probably be later on. We shall see!

Anyhoo, Here are my doodles!

Some mini sketches of some people nearby as I sat in class! This has sparked a new love for pit pen!
This is from a drink and draw event this month that I went to a few days ago for the first time. I really enjoyed myself! Definitely going to make this more of a routine thing.
 Aaaaaaaand sketch dump! Hurah!

This is just a quick moment of boredom on photoshop.

Western clothing studies! Here are a few studies and the overall. Hopefully I'll have an 8-12 page western comic for you guys pretty soon.

Above: This is in relation to a Zelda themed fan series I've been wanting to do in my spare time. So more of this may be showing soon, haha.

IRON PEN SHOWDOWN SUBMISSION~ character concept:

So a friend and fellow student has set up this really cool website idea that basically boils down to competitors battling it out with comics!! Of course this got me super excited and I've registered as one of them! It's this great and exciting plan where each contestant creates a character concept to enter the competition, and then you and your character are matched against other competitors. Once you have your opponent you create a comic about your character defeating the other one, and they do the same against yours. The winner of the match is chosen based on who produces the better comic overall. Once the winner is chosen, you're pushed onward to face off with another until a winner is chosen.

The webiste is http://ironpenshowdown.blogspot.com/
I strongly recommend it to others. Anyone can register as long as you do so before the deadline. However, if you've missed it and the battles have already started, you'll unfortunately have to wait it out until a victor is chosen to be able to join #2 of the event. Also, anyone can vote on what comic they feel deserves to be pushed on into the next round of battles so feel free to check it out!

Anyways, here's my submission for the contest! It's a quick little sketch based off of my friend Ali Henderson. Also, the awesome coloring is done by Max Currie! If you like it, you can see a little more of his work at his website: maxcurriecomic.com !

Description:

Prepared to be thrown into a world of sugar, spice and everything MONSTROUS as I present to you the amazing ALI-KAZAM, the sugar summoning little bad ass from down the street! Don't be fooled by the petite facade, or else you'll find yourself being devoured, trampled, or torn to pieces by ADORABLE. That's right, ADORABLE! Ali-Kazam was introduced to some special friends by a gypsy after doing the old woman a favor. A favor that formed a pact and turned our simple little Ali into ALI-KAZAM! Now that she has the connection in place, she can summon to her choosing any adorable monstrosity from the strange fluff realm that took a bad turn and never went back. Her favorite of the bunch, though she makes sure to give equal attention to all her new friends, is a massive bunny abomination named BUNNANZA who has a short temper and a deep attachment to our mini summoner. Make sure to take notice of her shirt ladies and gentlemen because not only do the words 'come at me bro' represent her understandable confidence, but those words equal the key phrase that will inevitably result in your end as her summoning powers activate! Tread carefully my friends and watch your mouth, this one doesn't take lightly to disrespect!

So in the words of Ali-Kazam....COME AT ME BRO!

Hope you guys enjoy! I'll be updating with my battle comics along with my class projects. I'll have LOTS to put up now that the quarter is coming to a close, so keep an eye out!

----- UPDATE-------

Unfortunately the arena was cancelled due to lack of participation. Hopefully round two will work out better.

AT LAST!!!

Well after four/five weeks of constant drawing, inking and coloring, and only getting an average of 3 hours of sleep a night with a couple of full all nighters thrown in, I finished my finals! Thank God haha! Here's my project for Visual Storytelling 2; a ten page original story called Market Mix-up.

I'm going to go back through and change up the colors to a more local color pallet, but here's what I ended up with on my first round. Also, I'm trying to get better at hand lettering. I don't quite like how it came out, but at least that's a bit of practice out of the way. Enjoy!

More Environments

Another round of environments to see. This time the theme was Grandeur vs. Gutter. They're a little wonky, but it's still some good practice. I just have to work to avoid the troubles I had this round in the next.

Environment studies

A new quarter, a new class, and this time it's environments! I have a whole lot more practice ahead of me, but here are two examples that I've liked from what I've done so far.

Colored pages

So here are the colored and lettered versions of my three page story, 'Can't win candyland' shown below. I liked them at the time, but now that I'm looking back on them I'm reminded of how tired I must have been! But, that's just me. Here they are anyways! Enjoy :)!

Ink Light study

This is a little old but it's one of a couple studies with light and ink we went through. This is my favorite of the bunch. New stuff on the way!
